Try the famous prawns of Sóller

At the entrance of the Port de Sóller, a sculpture of a shrimp warns visitors that it has crossed a gastronomic frontier: behind is the Vall de Sóller with its aroma of orange and lemon trees and is replaced by the sea breeze full of aromas of fish and the famous prawns of Sóller.

The fresh prawn is the gastronomic emblem of the Port de Sóller fishing grounds: savoring them in the terraces of the restaurants of the port while enjoying the views is a luxury for the senses.

This precious crustacean known as red shrimp or prawn of Sóller was already used by the Romans to make the garum (aphrodisiac fish sauce) and the fishermen of Port de Sóller have continued capturing it until today, where we can enjoy it in tasty dishes: barbecues, stews, pans, fish broths or accompanied by a chopped garlic and parsley.

Every day, and whenever the sea allows it, the fishermen of the port leave in their greaves, a type of ox boat, to catch the red shrimp in the fishing ground of Sóller and then take it to the port where it will be marketed towards other markets or markets and, finally, served in delicious dishes.
